While the Donner-Reed Party crossed the Great Salt lake Desert in September 1846, its members began to abandon wagons, animals and supplies in a desperate attempt to survive the crossing.  Some artifacts retrieved from that desert crossing are on display in the museum.  Monuments in front of the Donner-Reed Memorial Museum contain corner stones from early Grantsville buildings, the high school and grade school.
