Qualifications For County Office

  • U.S. Citizen at the time of filing
  • A registered voter in the county*
  • At least a one-year resident of the county immediately preceding the date of the election
  • Unless unaffiliated, be a member of a registered political party
  • Maintain primary residence within the district during term of the office
  • Not been convicted of a felony**

In addition meeting all of the qualifications listed above:

  • County Assessors: Must also provide proof of State-Licensing or Certification prior to filing.

* A qualified voter (1) is a citizen of the United States; (2) is a resident of Utah; (3) will, on the date of that election: be at least 18 years old, and have been a resident of Utah for 30 days immediately before that election; (4) and has registered to vote.
**An individual convicted of certain crimes loses the right to hold office until convictions have been expunged OR the individual meets all of the following requirements: (1) 10 years have passed since the individual’s most recent felony conviction, (2) The individual paid all court-ordered restitution and fines; and (3) the individual completed probation, granted parole, or completed the term of incarceration associated with the felony. An individual convicted of an election related misdemeanor has restored their rights to hold office according to Utah Code 20A-2-101.3.

Candidate Filing Fees

Candidates that are financially unable to pay a filing fee may fill out an Affidavit of Impecuniosity at the time of filing to waive the filing fee.

You must gather and have Clerk verification of the specified number of signatures by this varying deadline: 14 days prior to your respective State/County Convention. Contact your local party representatives for dates.

Candidate Profiles

At the time of filing, candidates will receive instructions provided by the Lt. Governor’s Office explaining how to create a bio for the vote.utah.gov site.

Additionally, candidates are welcome and encouraged to submit a 1 page candidate bio in PDF format to the County Clerk for posting on the County website.

Financial Disclosures

All candidates are required to submit reports outlining their campaign contributions and expenditures. Deadlines and instructions will be provided at filing.
